Frequently asked questions
It's up to you. We're happy to work with you directly, or to assist the dealer in resolving your claim. For skis purchased from Backcountry.com, Evo, Sierra Trading Post, or REI, please contact the dealer directly — DPS will work with them to ensure your claim is resolved promptly.
A copy of your proof of purchase is required to process a claim, and a handwritten receipt is not acceptable. Claims submitted without acceptable proof of purchase will be denied. If you purchased directly from DPS, we can look up your order — just include the email address used at the time of purchase.
We always strive to repair a ski before replacing it. In the case that the ski must be replaced, we will be replace it with same model or a newer version depending on inventory. Refunds are not an option for warranty resolution.
Yes. Please obtain all of the necessary proof of purchase information required to initiate your claim before contacting DPS.
Our warranty period is based on a time frame that begins with your date of purchase. We do not consider usage or other unmeasurable factors in our warranty evaluation process.
We always strive to repair a ski before replacing it. If a ski must be replaced, we replace it with the identical length, model, and construction of the original. Refunds are not an option for warranty resolution.
If an identical replacement is no longer available, you'll be presented with alternate options based on availability. If your skis were current in the DPS quiver on your date of purchase, they'll be replaced with an identical model or newer, upon availability. If your skis were already discontinued at the time of purchase, you'll be offered a credit toward a replacement pair — this credit will not exceed your purchase price, and may not cover the retail price of the desired replacement in full.
Upgrades to the most current construction are available for a fee. Ask your warranty specialist whether an upgrade is currently available.
DPS will look at all options to repair the ski before replacement. If only one of your skis has a manufacturing defect, we'll replace just that one ski given available inventory. The carbon laminates in our skis do not fatigue over time, so replacing and then skiing on one new ski will not impact the feel of the pair.
We will always do our best to keep you on DPS, regardless of how your skis were damaged. For issues that are clearly not manufacturing defects, resolution options may include a used but comparable replacement for a minimal fee, a new single for half the price of a pair, or a discount on a pair of new or used skis in exchange for the unbroken, original single.
Ski breakage due to impact damage is evaluated case by case, at the discretion of your warranty specialist. The more honest you are with us about the damage, the better your resolution options will be.
We understand that sometimes in ski season you can't be without skis for the time it takes to get a replacement pair. If this is the case, we're always willing to charge you upfront for the full price of the replacement skis. You then have three months to return the originals to DPS for a full refund of your purchase price. This requires prior authorization, and you must have an approved warranty in advance.
All warranties are valid for three months after the approval date. Failure to accept your warranty resolution within that time period may lead to forfeiture of benefits.
If you're concerned circumstances may prevent you from accepting your resolution within the three-month period, let us know right away and we'll do our best to accommodate you. Prior authorization must be obtained.
Permanently altering or removing any part of the ski may void your warranty. Expected ski maintenance — tunes, base grinds, and mounts — will not. Whenever possible, contact DPS in advance of any questionable repairs.
In an emergency, where a ski must be altered before a claim is filed or DPS is contacted, follow these steps to minimize the risk of voiding your warranty: take several photographs of the issue before altering the ski in any way; whenever possible, don't cut away part of the ski — use epoxy to secure it instead; if a part of the ski becomes unsecured, retain it. Submit your claim as soon as you're able, with detailed information about the repair.
Yes. Though DPS does not sell or mount threaded metal binding inserts (typically Quiver Killers or Binding Freedom), we don't discourage their use. Their impact on the ski's durability and retention depends heavily on the installation — a poor installation can easily compromise the integrity of the mount and negatively affect durability. Properly mounted inserts will not negatively impact the ski, and in some cases may add durability to the mount long term.
The DPS warranty does not cover any matter related to an insert's installation or the durability of the mount. All other factors — edge, sidewall, topsheet, base — are unaffected by the use of a metal binding insert.
